The next generation Lexus IS is overdue for an update, and our spy photographers have just caught the 2014 IS out testing.
The IS is supposed to be coming with some radical new design, said to be previewed by the LF-CC concept car. The photos do not reveal all that much, as the camo does a good job of hiding the design lines. We can expect that the front end will have Lexus’ now signature spindle grille, and that the car will utilize some type of hybrid powertrain. Dimensions of the new car look to be about the same, so hopefully some time has been paid to weight reduction in the new IS.
The new IS will sit on a shrunken version of the GS platform, and be a more focused sports performance car than ever before, with an IS-F version due to come out about a year after the car launches to fight its German sports car rivals, namely the M3 and C63 AMG.
A convertible version of the new IS is also expected sometime after launch.
